AFTON - The Afton Free Library tries to regularly supports artists/art in the local area through library programming and local artist spotlights. Artwork by Afton-based artist, Christopher Lloyd Wright, will be on display at the Afton Free Library now through the end of April. Wright will also be having an art opening at the Sidney Library in April.
The Afton Free Library has a particular pension towards the arts having a rotational display of local artists spotlights, and on the last Thursday of each month an arts and craft class takes place. These arts and crafts programs are huge draws for people in the area and often have the most participation.
The library also host a “Tiny Art Show” during their summer reading program, where community members are invited to participate in a painting workshop and following art show where prizes are given out.
Afton has a rather lively art community and the Afton Free Library is happy to have pieces of art by the local artist Christopher Lloyd Wright on display.
Library manager Michelle Hurd expressed, “I think that this is a great opportunity for the library to partner with the community and to have our local artists show their work here. It gets people to come into our library, and it also lets us support people here by showing their work.” Hurd is a personal fan of the artist currently on spotlight at the library.
