BAINBRIDGE— The Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats and the Greene Trojans girls’ basketball teams faced off in a battle to the finish in the first round of the Section IV, Class C tournament. Both teams fought hard to qualify for sectionals with Greene having to win out and B-G fighting for a higher seed to get a first-round bye, but ended up as the third-seed.

B-G came away with a 48-35 victory to advance to the next round, where the Bobcats will host the second round game as the highest seed in the next matchup as the third seed.

B-G will host the six-seed Elmira Notre Dame on Friday, February 27 at 6 p.m.

Mya Leggett-Carlin and Mia Yahner were strong defenders inside the paint as well as the rest of the Trojans defense, who pressured B-G for a while, causing them to put up bad shots with the shot clock winding down. However, B-G kept its strength up, where they also added fierce intensity in the defensive battle, limiting Greene to single digit scoring until the final eight minutes.

Greene had a strong fourth quarter with a best 18 points, lead by efforts from Lexi Cloyd (eight points), Hailey Butler (seven points), Deirdre Colgan (two points), and Kaitlyn Youngs (one free-throw). However, B-G matched efforts with a strong fourth as well with 18 points to extend its lead to 14 points halfway through the final eight minutes.

Tori Suda was a big contributor in the fourth quarter, making six straight shots for the B-G offense halfway through the quarter. She led the Bobcats with 13 points, with the 12 in the fourth quarter.
