OXFORD - Friends and collaborators Cosy Sheridan and Sloan Wainwright will reunite onstage at 6 On The Square in Oxford for a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
Sheridan has been called one of the era’s finest and most thoughtful songwriters, and her music regularly tops the folk radio charts. Her concerts are wide-ranging explorations: ragtime guitar and social satire, modern renditions of mythology and tales of modern adulthood. Her alter ego, Chlamydia, sometimes appears with songs such as “Botox Tango” or “Multiply Pierced.”
Sheridan first caught the attention of national folk audiences in 1992 when she won both the Kerrville Folk Festival's New Song Award and The Telluride Bluegrass Festival Troubadour Contest, and then released her critically acclaimed album “Quietly Led” on Waterbug Records. Since then, she has released more than 13 CDs and written a one-woman-show. At 6OTS, bassist Charlie Koch will supply rhythms and vocal harmonies.
Wainwright (sister to Loudon Wainwright III and aunt to Rufus Wainwright and nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) blends pop, folk, jazz and blues — all tied together with her powerhouse voice and her sense of joy and connection.
Over the course of a 30-year career in music, she has played the great concert halls, the most storied listening rooms and top music festivals while also teaching at the nation’s leading music retreats. She has inspired hundreds of students on their creative journeys and collaborated with dozens of musicians, writers, choreographers and performers. Accompanying her at 6OTS will be singer/songwriter and guitarist Glen Roethel.
Tickets for the 6OTS concert are $25 in advance or $30 at the door; purchase at 6onthesquare.org or call 607-843-OTS6 (6876) to make a reservation. Doors open one hour before the start of performances. The concert also will be streamed live online for $10; more information at 6onthesquare.org.
Performances are made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Kathy Hochul, and our 6OTS members.
