Oxford Girls Defeat Greene In Opening MAC Playoff Game

OXFORD— The Oxford Blackhawks and the Greene Trojans girls’ basketball teams faced off in a neighborly matchup to open up the 2025-26 MAC league playoffs. Oxford hosted as the sixth seed, where Greene finished behind the Blackhawks in the standings as the seventh seed.

Oxford, who picked up an exciting non-league win against Marathon in the final moments on Wednesday night, earned another win 55-32. Both teams await their next MAC playoff game.

Oxford held Greene to single-digit scoring in three out of four quarters with the Trojans’ best performance coming just before halftime with 14 points. Great efforts were made by Mia Yahner, Lexi Cloyd, Deirdre Colgan, and Mya Leggett-Carlin on offense within those eight minutes.

The Lady Blackhawks stayed up tempo throughout the contest, taking a brief 21-18 lead at halftime before coming out in the second half and firing up with 20 points.

Raine Rovente led Oxford with 12 points as Margaret Rovente added 10 points with two big three’s in the second and then one in the third quarter. Margaret also made both free-throw attempts.

Jenna Denz, also had a big three in the third quarter and then another in the fourth quarter, and Paige Rickard both chipped in eight points.

Aubrey Rickard finished with six points while Arielle Ross and Jordan Palmer both added four points and Emmalee Reiss with three points in the final eight minutes.

Aubrey Rickard led the Blackhawks with 10 rebounds as Paige Rickard had five assists and Jordan Palmer with three steals.

Lexi Cloyd led the Trojans with 10 points, where she stayed consistent throughout the contest and hit two three’s. Mya Leggett-Carlin added five points in the second quarter while Mia Yahner and Deirdre Colgan both netted four points.

Ahraya Whitt hit a three in the final eight minutes while Hailey Butler, Kaitlyn Youngs, and Macie Dunlap all finished with two points each in the loss.
