BAINBRIDGE - If you love country music, then don’t miss The Driftwoods, with special guests Jason Wicks and Ken Wilber, when they perform at the Bainbridge Town Hall Theatre on Saturday, February 7, at 7 p.m. The Driftwoods were founded by Dick Thompson in 1960 and they continued to perform for 40 years into the early 2000’s. John Thompson, Dick’s son, became leader of the band in 2019, and has reformed the band to maintain the same authenticity and style to honor his dad’s memory and the tradition of country music.
There are five members of The Driftwoods. John Thompson is the band’s guitarist, leader and vocalist. John’s music career has included performing alongside several Nashville artists and other well-known musicians like Redd Volkaert, Bill Kirchen and Arlen Roth.
The “sound of the Driftwoods” is largely attributed to the mastery of pedal steel guitarist, John DeMaille. John is a member of The New York State Country Music Hall of Fame and has been recognized by many as one of the top steel guitarists in the northeast.
The bass guitar player and vocalist, Jody Taylor, has the role of keeping the “bottom” of the band. His contributions are immeasurable. He is also a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter.
Adrian McCloskey is the band’s rock-solid drummer. His music career has included performing a variety of genres in bands such as rock, jazz, fusion, swing, country and even with the NYC police department’s parade band at Madison Square Garden with renowned pop band, The Police.
On keyboards is Dr. Paul Carter. Dr. Carter is a professor at SUNY Oneonta University and has been involved with many area bands and bands throughout Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Special guests that evening include Jason Wicks and Ken Wilber. Jason Wicks is a hard-working country artist from Central New York, blending classic country roots with today’s modern sound. From packed clubs and casinos to Nashville songwriting rooms, Jason brings authentic stories, high-energy live shows, and real country grit. Influenced by legends like George Strait and Merle Haggard, with a modern edge inspired by today’s country hits from artists like Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan, his music is built to connect with fans old and new.
Ken Wilber is the former lead singer of the band Fly by Nite. He has released two studio albums entitled "Rollin' My Own" and "Ran Out of Sky.". Both albums are available on Itunes, Spotify, Amazon Music and all other major streaming platforms. His third album "Alcohol and Cigarettes" will release later this year. Please follow him on Facebook @kenwilbercountry.
