DERUYTER— The Otselic Valley Vikings boys’ basketball team traveled to DeRuyter on Friday, where senior Lukas Schieferstein recorded his 1000th point. The senior guard now has 1011 career points, according to his high school sports stats player profile, after scoring 22 points on Friday.
The Vikings came up short 70-60 in the high-scoring affair as the Rockets posted 21 points in both the second and third quarters.
OV nearly pulled off the upset against the 12-3 Rockets with being down just three points 63-60. However, DeRuyter got back on track to come away with the 10-point victory in the final minutes.
Owen Davis led the Vikings with 24 points, where he hit six three-pointers and had four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Schieferstein added 22 points with two three’s, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Caleb Loomis finished with seven points, four rebounds, four assists, and had two steals.
Tommy Kenyon chipped in four points as Konyr Clemens added a basket and led the team with eight rebounds and three blocks. Logan Foster contributed with a single free-throw in the loss.
OV (8-9) hosts Manlius-Pebble Hill this evening at 7 p.m., where the Vikings will honor its seniors as well as Schieferstein’s achievement.
