“Papelino served the city for over 40 years and his contributions were extraordinary,” said Jeffrey.

He said Papelinos commitment to public safety dated back to his beginnings as a volunteer firefighter in 1979 and his dedication gave way to his lengthy career as Fire Chief from January 4, 2018 to January 31, 2026.

“He was great to work with and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him,” Jeffrey said. “We wish him the best.”

According to Assemblyman Joe Angelino, the day was filled with emotion as about 100 family members, friends, firefighters, and cops surprised Papelino with a luncheon to honor his years of devotion.

“Norwich residents owe this man a debt of gratitude for a job done flawlessly,” said Angelino.

Papelinos passion defined his character as he demonstrated a legendary work ethic not only as a firefighter but also as a 40 year employee of Unison.

He was born and raised in Sherburne and is set to enjoy retirement with his wife, five children, two grandchildren, dogs and riding his motorcycle.
