DELHI - New York State Police will be hosting a free child car seat check on  Sunday, February 1, 2026.  It will be between  10 a.m. and 1 p.m.  at the  Delhi Fire Department  located at 140 Delview Terrace Ext. Delhi, NY 13753.

Make sure your child’s car seat is properly installed and the right fit for their age, height and weight.  A correctly installed car seat can make all the difference if you’re in a crash.

Here’s what to expect at a child car seat check event:

A hands-on inspection that makes sure the seat is installed properly.

A check to make sure your child is in the correct type of car seat for their age, weight and height – so bring your child if you can!

Education – we’ll answer any questions you may have.

We will check the car seat if there are any recalls and check its expiration.

New York State Law requires that all children must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle until they reach their 8th birthday.  All children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing car seat.  If the child has outgrown an infant seat, it is recommended that a larger, rear facing convertible or all-in-one car seat with higher rear-facing height and weight limits be used.

An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets your child’s size and weight recommended by the manufacturer.
