NORWICH— The Norwich Purple Tornado wrestling team hosted Canastota on Thursday night, where they honored their lone senior Matthew Allen. Norwich fell to the non-league, Section III opponent 51-27.

Eighth-grader Koltyn Collins fell to Canastota’s eighth-grader Colton Merithew in a 2:32 pin at 103 pounds.

Canastota also received three forfeits at 110, 118, and 132 pounds while Norwich’s Kole Downey earned a win by forfeit at 150.

Jadyn Carpenter battled with William Soucia at 126 pounds, but fell late by pin at 5:44.

Norwich’s Noah Eddy shut out Evan Bixby with a 13-0 major decision through three periods.

Bryce Wellington earned the 20-4 tech fall victory in 4:35 at 144 pounds.

Kolby Vielandi added on to the score with a 1:39 pin in the 157 weight class.

Maverick Beckwith stayed hot with a 1:02 pin against Loki Domena at 165 pounds. Beckwith is currently 34-2 on the season.

Senior Matthew Allen fell to Luken Gaiser in a 17-2 tech fall at 175 pounds.

Norwich’s Collin Howe fell by a :29 pin at 190 pounds as Noah Shack was pinned at 3:46 at 215 and Ethan Shapley fell in a 10-0 major decision at 285.

Malakai Hagenbuch pinned Domena in 3:45 and teammate Jackson Young fell to Brody Bixby in a 2:25 pin in the exhibition matches.

Norwich heads to the Sectional Qualifiers on February 7 at 10 a.m.
