OXFORD — The Oxford Blackhawks boys’ basketball team defeated MAC league opponent Sidney on Friday night 61-45 to win their third straight game. The Blackhawks moved ahead of Unatego/Franklin in the standings as they improved to 5-0 in the league standings.

Both teams battled with Oxford coming away with a big 21 point second quarter and took a 35-25 lead at the break.

The Blackhawks held a 10-point lead at the end of the third quarter before finishing off strong, outscoring the Sabers 18-12 in the final eight minutes.

Gordon Smith continues to excel for the Blackhawks as he soared with 23 points with three three-pointers. Smith scored nine points in the second quarter in the team’s big 21 point play before the break.

Richard Hunter added 12 points and went four-for-nine at the free-throw line, staying consistent throughout the contest.

Nic Dodzweit scored all 10 of his total points in the first half to help Smith and Hunter.

Kayden Renfrow finished with seven points as Bennett Paden had five points in the second half, where he made both free-throws he earned in the fourth quarter.

Degan Endress netted in four points off the bench in the second quarter in the win.

Oxford (9-3) heads to Marathon on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
