NORWICH -- The Norwich Purple Tornado wrestling team hosted Ithaca in a non-league dual match at Jack Jones Gymnasium. Norwich saw great matches from its youth, including seventh grader Kole Downey and from eighth grader Koltyn Collins, and outstanding performances still from leading junior Maverick Beckwith.
However, Norwich fell 48-33 overall in the match.
Ithaca earned four forefits to Norwich's two with Noah Eddy and Bryce Wellington both picking up wins.
Koltyn Collins had one of Norwich's two pins on the night in the varsity matches as he pinned down Ithaca's Greyson Burlingame in 2:51.
Jadyn Carpenter had the other pin for the Purple Tornado in the 126 weight class as he pinned Ithaca's David Yonker in 2:57.
Kole Downey won a tough match against Ithaca's Isaiah Scott, where he kept racking up the points to win in a 16-6 decision with many take downs and a near fall, but could not earn the pin or tech fall.
Maverick Beckwith, coming off winning the Eastern States title over the weekend, won in a 18-1 tech fall against Ithaca's Tosh Burlingame.
Kolby Vielandi, Matthew Allen, Konner Philbrook, and Noah Shack fell by pins in their respective weight classes.
Malakai Hagenbuch pinned Ithaca's Benjamin Wixson in 5:25 as teammate Jackson Young won in an 18-3 tech fall in the JV matches.
