OXFORD — The Oxford Blackhawks boys’ basketball team returned to action to start the new year on Tuesday at home against Unadilla Valley. The hometown was cheerful as both Oxford JV and Varsity programs earned big wins against their MAC league opponent.

The Varsity boys had a 21-point lead at halftime and added on in the second half to win 78-49.

Both teams traded shots in a quick scoring start just a minute into the contest before Oxford continued playing up tempo to build a steady lead.

Gordon Smith was a key highlight all game for the Blackhawks both offensively and defensively, with help from several teammates as well. The Storm could not contain Smith, who was open for three’s every time.

Oxford also saw success with long passes from one end of the court to the other multiple times before UV had a chance to get down and guard on defense.

UV tried to catch themselves up late in the game, but Oxford had built a big lead, where they could slowly bring substitution players in.
