PORT BYRON— The Sherburne-Earlville Timberwolves wrestling team kicked off the new year competing in the Port Byron Mid Winter tournament, where they took third with 91 points. Marcellus won the tournament overall.
S-E brought seven wrestlers with five place winners. Trenton Anderson and Freddy Smith won their respective weight classes as Andrew Menard took second, Noah Ackermann in fourth, and Aiden Shreve in fifth.
Anderson won all three matches on the day with a quick :23 pin in the finals, along with a 18-4 major decision, and a win by tech fall. Smith won both matches he faced in the 110 weight class with a quick :38 pin and a 10-2 major decision.
Andrew Menard went 3-1 in the 285 weight class, where he won by medical forfeit, had two wins by pins, but fell in a 4:28 pin in the finals.
Noah Ackermann went 2-2 at 144 pounds with a win by pin and a close 7-5 decision. Aiden Shreve took fifth as he also went 2-2 in the 126 weight class with a win by tech fall and a 7-3 decision.
Jonathan Conklin went 1-2 at 144 with his only win by pin before two losses by tech fall. Manny Hollins went 3-2 at 132 with three wins by pins, but did not place.
