DEPOSIT— The Oxford Blackhawks boys’ basketball team picked up another crucial MAC league victory on Thursday night at Deposit-Hancock with a 60-44 win. The Blackhawks improve to 6-2 on the season and are in second place in the league behind an unbeaten Unatego/Franklin.
Oxford pounced early with 22 first quarter points. Kayden Renfrow scored all nine of his points in the first quarter as leading scorer Gordon Smith put up eight points in the first quarter and eight more in the second quarter.
Oxford led 38-19 at the break and continued to keep the steady lead, even with Deposit-Hancock picking up the pace in the second half.
Smith led the Blackhawks with 26 points, playing consistently throughout the entire contest. Renfrow finished with nine points as Bennett Paden had eight points.
Degan Endress and Nic Dodzweit both finished with seven points.
Richard Hunter added six points and Aiden Mellem hit a three in the third quarter in the win.
Oxford (6-2) have been anticipating their first home game of the season after a long road trip. The Blackhawks host non-league opponent Chenango Forks on Saturday at 5 p.m.
