OXFORD - If you’re not in the holiday spirit yet, here’s a way to get you there: “A Charlie Brown Christmas” with the Heather Pierson Trio at 6 On The Square in Oxford at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21. The concert will feature the entire album by the Vince Guaraldi Trio as well as other Guaraldi compositions and seasonal favorites.
The musical score for “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” first broadcast in December 1965, is as poignant and touching as the story and includes the hugely popular “Linus and Lucy.”
Pierson is a New Hampshire-based singer/songwriter, pianist, song leader and performer with a passion for cultivating joy and harmony. Her live performances feature her ease at the piano, her bell-tone voice sharing songs ranging from folk to jazz to blues.
Her 16th studio album, “Back to the Light,” was recorded “live on the floor” at Acadia Recording Company in Portland, Maine, with her trio mates Shawn Nadeau on bass and Craig Bryan on drums and percussion. The collection of original songs pulsates with the grooves of New Orleans, the beauty of Appalachia and Sunday-go-to-meeting celebration.
Pierson and fellow singer/songwriter/song leader Bernice Martin are co-creators of Heart Songs & Circle Songs, a community singing project that has produced two albums and two songbooks of original community singing repertoire now being taught by song leaders and choir directors around the world.
In 2022, Pierson reconnected with a friend of nearly 30 years, Leah Boyd, to form the musical duo Peaceful Means. They weave together original songs and uplifting arrangements of choice covers with their voices and accompanying piano, acoustic strings and percussion to cultivate the joy, peace and connection. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2024.
Also in 2024, Pierson formed the rock quartet The Potboilers with her trio plus guitarist/vocalist Rafe Matregrano. This group performs another side of her original repertoire plus reimagined classics from artists ranging from Dolly Parton to Phish.
