MORRIS —After suffering a hard loss to Morris in the opening round of the Ray Clement tournament in Morris, the Oxford Blackhawks boys' basketball team traveled back to Morris on Saturday to take on Laurens in the consolation game.
Oxford came away with a dominant 81-31 victory against Laurens to take third in the tournament.
The Blackhawks held Laurens to single-digit scoring in all but the final eight minutes of play (10 points).
Oxford scored a team-best 24 quarter points in the first with efforts from Gordon Smith, Bennett Paden, Nic Dodzweit, Kayden Renfrow, and Richard Hunter. Smith, who went all out in the first half and totaled a team-high 31 points, helped drive efforts before halftime as the team posted 21 points to take a 45-16 lead at halftime.
Smith made the all-tournament team for Oxford in the win.
Aside from Smith, Paden finished with nine points as Hunter had eight points.
Degan Endress and Aiden Mellem both added seven points as Dodzweit and Renfrow both had six points.
Blake Barrows contributed with a single free-throw in the fourth quarter.
Oxford (4-2) heads to take on Harpursville/Afton in Afton tonight at 7:15 p.m.
