SHERBURNE — The Chenango Bird Club will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 10, at the Visitor Center of the Rogers Environmental Education Center, in the main building, located at 2721 NY-80 in Sherburne.
Parking can be found at the big lot off of highway 80, or next to the main building off of the long driveway entrance.
A brief business meeting will precede the main program and holiday gathering.
“The first meeting agenda item will be a presentation by Mike DeWispelaere to prepare for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count, which will be held on Sunday, December 14,” said Chenango Bird Club Communications Chair Dan Pfeifer.
Pfeifer said the Chenango Bird Club conducts this count using a count circle with a diameter of 15 miles, using Sherburne as the center of the circle. The circle is divided into eight sections, with field observers assigned to each area.
He said participants wishing to join the count must live within the count circle and can count birds at feeders and/or on your property.
One of the many birds counted in the winter can be the elusive Snowy Owl.
According to Allaboutbirds.org, Male Snowy Owls are barred with dark brown when young, and get whiter as they get older. Females keep some dark markings throughout their lives.
