Norwich community comes together to offer charity meals for Thanksgiving

NORWICH - Recently a number of groups came together to offer more than 300 gift baskets with meals to area families.

The United Church of Christ, the City Church, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Catholic Churches of Norwich, the Parker/Walsh Real Estate team and the City of Norwich School District gathered charity baskets with all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal for scores of families in our community.

On Thursday the United Church of Christ gathered 150 boxes, with the remaining 187 baskets being completed with gift cards and the food fixings. Volunteers from the Norwich Fire Department helped by unloading donations and moving 170 baskets for distribution.

“This year we will distribute approximately 337 baskets. Given the difficult times, we are honored to help so many local families have a complete meal with friends and family,” said United Church of Christ Volunteer Deb Phelps. (Submitted photos)
