NORWICH — Forty-three students from five area schools attended the College and Career Exploration Day at SUNY Morrisville's Norwich Campus last Thursday, focusing on the career field of law enforcement. Presenters included Terra Carnrike-Granata, Senior Director of Information Security at NBT Bank, who introduced cyber fraud protection as a trending career; Retired Norwich Police Chief/current UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Security Officer Rodney Marsh, who spoke about security opportunities in medical facilities; Kevin Powell, Security & Law Enforcement Instructor at DCMO BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus, and a number of other local law enforcement officers.

Using a mock crime scene, presenters introduced the process of crime investigation and the multiple occupations connected to this type of incident, allowing students to experience the steps investigators take to find the solution when faced with a new crime.
SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus Director Sarah Casscles introduced Assemblyman Joe Angelino, who spoke about his numerous career roles, from his military service, where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, to his work in the Norwich Police Department, which included reaching the Chief position, and his current role as a New York State legislator.
Presenters from the SUNY Morrisville Law Enforcement program, including two students, shared the numerous opportunities available at the main campus, as well as the benefits of completing general studies at the local Norwich campus.

Martha Ryan, College and Career Exploration program coordinator, expressed her gratitude to all the organizations involved and celebrated the work of school teachers and coordinators who devote time to open students’ curiosity to pursue careers in this relevant field.

Students from Deposit Central School, Otselic Valley Central School, Unadilla Valley Central School, Richfield Springs Central School and Oxford Academy Central School participated in the Norwich event.
