As we head into the season of Thanksgiving, I find myself reflecting on what it truly means to give thanks, not just with words, but through actions that strengthen our communities and show gratitude to those who make New York a better place to live.
This time of year reminds us to pause and appreciate the people who make our daily quality of life possible. While it’s easy to get caught up in the rush of the holidays, Thanksgiving gives us a chance to focus on what truly matters: service, kindness and community.
Here in the Southern Tier and Central New York, we have much to be thankful for. Our region is home to hardworking people who take pride in what they do and care deeply about their neighbors. From the dairy farmers in who work before sunrise to ensure families across New York have milk on the table, to the small business owners along Main Street in every community, big and small, who keep our local economies running strong, we are blessed with men and women willing to do what’s needed to keep our communities healthy and vibrant.
I’m thankful, too, for our educators, who dedicate themselves to shaping the next generation. Whether it’s a teacher in public or parochial schools encouraging a student to reach higher or an instructor at a SUNY or Colgate helping someone start a new career path, their work builds brighter futures for us all.
As a veteran, I’m especially mindful of those who serve and protect our country and our communities. Many of our neighbors in the 121st District wore a uniform—whether it’s overseas in the Armed Forces or right here at home in law enforcement, fire departments and emergency medical services. These men and women sacrifice time with their own families so we can enjoy ours safely. To all who serve, and to their families who support them, you have our deepest gratitude.
We also see incredible generosity from volunteers throughout our district. The food drives run by local churches and civic groups, like the Norwich Family YMCA’s annual Thanksgiving basket program or the Helping Hands food program, make sure no one is left behind during the holidays. It’s these quiet, everyday acts of compassion that remind us what community truly means.
As your representative, I’m deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me to serve you, both here at home and in Albany. Every conversation at a town hall, visit to a local business or stop at a county fair helps guide the work I do on your behalf.
I encourage everyone to take a moment to reach out to someone who may be spending the holiday alone, to support a local charity or simply to thank a neighbor who goes the extra mile. Gratitude grows stronger when it’s shared.
From my family to yours, I wish you a safe, healthy, and meaningful Thanksgiving. May we continue to lift each other up and give thanks not only for what we have, but for the people who make our communities so special.
