COLUMBUS - Last Thursday, Commerce Chenango met with several local officials from Chenango County with Chobani to discuss their recent and forthcoming investments to their Columbus campus.
Guests were provided with a tour of current facilities, and a preview of construction progress.
Chobani, founded in Chenango County in 2005, is America’s number one selling Greek yogurt brand. In 2024, the Columbus plant used over 102 million gallons of milk from Chenango County farms.
Currently, the plant produces 250,000 cases of product a day and sees 55 raw milk truck deliveries each day.
Earlier this year, Chobani unveiled plans for a 1.2-billion-dollar processing plant in Oneida County. The facility will be over a million square feet, process approximately 12 million pounds of milk daily, and create over 1,000 jobs.
However, Chobani remains committed to the community they were founded in. The company is in the process of making a $110 million investment over three years at their Chenango County plant.
The investment comes in the form of a new wastewater treatment plant and a Whey Osmosis addition. Both initiatives will keep the plant running efficiently and will reduce the number of trucks coming on and off campus. As a result, Chobani is reducing their carbon footprint.
Sal Testani, Commerce Chenango President & CEO said, “We are incredibly fortunate to have Chobani located here in Chenango County, and we are extremely grateful that they continue to invest in their original home Columbus. This expansion demonstrates the commitment they show to their people and to our community.”
