GREENE – On Wednesday night under the lights, the Greene Trojans girls’ soccer team hosted Sidney for its final league game of the regular season, celebrating the class of 2026 seniors. Congratulations to Jo Jo Trepa, Kenzie Soto, Lyndsay Specht, and Brooke Relyea. Greene fell 3-2 in overtime against the Sabers with 13.8 seconds left in the first overtime period as Nayla Miley had a hat trick for Sidney.

With both teams battling, it was the Sabers who struck first in the first five minutes of the game with a goal by Miley. Greene had nice shots on goal themselves from Lexi Cloyd, Hailey Butler, and Melanie Specht that were saved.

Sidney made it a 2-0 game with under eight minutes to go in the half with another goal by Miley. After that, Greene guarded her well to put themselves on the board with 1:02 left under halftime. Miah Cragle found Butler, who banked it in to make it a 2-1 deficit at halftime.

Butler tied the game within the first 15 minutes of the second half on a successful penalty kick.

Sidney had opportunities on several corner kicks and their own penalty kick, but Greene’s Quinlin Cavanaugh was impressive in goal, making tremendous saves.

The game remained tied at 2 at the end of regulation.

In the first period of overtime, Greene had a great chance as Caitlin Walls had a big kick towards the goal path and Greene got a shot off, but it was saved by the Sabers’ goalkeeper. Sidney almost put the game away in the next possession, but the ball sailed just right of the net.

However with 13.8 seconds left, Miley had a breakaway and kicked the ball behind Cavanaugh for the game-winner. Cavanaugh made 12 saves in goal for the Trojans.

Greene hosts non-league opponent Norwich in the final home game of the 2025 regular season before the mini MAC tournament, this evening at 5 p.m.
