Published: September 1st, 2025

SIDNEY – The Sidney Memorial Public Library is excited to announce and invite everyone to attend a special program, “What Will Poor Betsy Do? – The Story of the First Veterans’ Home in Oxford.”

Join us on Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. as Oxford Historian Vicky House will share her research and PowerPoint presentation on the Women’s Relief Corp (WRC) Home came into being. The existing facility, the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford, opened 128 years ago and was the first in the state to provide for a veteran, his wife, widow, or mother.

Come hear about how the site was chosen, who chose it, and see early photos of the facility. This program is free and light refreshments will be served after the program.
