NORWICH — Norwich Improv will be performing Dinner and a Show: Comedy Improv Night at 6:30 p.m. on September 13 in the Colonia Theater Ballroom, located at 35 South Broad Street in Norwich.
The event will feature a dinner buffet catered by Nina's Pizzeria, a cash bar, raffles, and a night of comedic improv. All proceeds will benefit the Chenango Arts Council. Tickets are $65 per person and can be purchased at ChenangoArts.org.
Norwich Improv member Gil Polk said the night will be split into two acts, with the first featuring improv games and audience suggestions in the spirit of "Whose Line is it Anyway?"
The second act will be utilizing the Harold Method, which takes a single audience suggestion and creates an entire world and storyline, all made up on the spot by the improvisers.
"We build basically an entire universe from one single audience suggestion and it’s all made up on the spot. But it’s not random, it’s very structured. Like intersecting storylines and hidden patterns and emotional arcs," said Polk. "In the second part, we’re really diving into a lot of truth, and the suggestions will be coming fast and furious from the first half of the show, and then the second is really based on one audience suggestion that we’re going to take, and we’re going to find all kinds of connections to and see how it grows and expands and what happens, and that’s going to happen between these recurring scenes that will be revisited."
