NORWICH - A City of Oneonta man was arrested on Monday, Aug. 11 after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading deputies on a dangerous chase through Norwich and New Berlin, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they responded at 11:02 a.m. that morning to a stolen vehicle report and, after interviewing the victim, police identified Justin M. Quackenbush, 38, as a suspect.
At 12:52 p.m., deputies reported spotting the stolen vehicle in Norwich and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over, initiating a pursuit.
The chase continued through Norwich and into New Berlin, ending at the intersection of state highways 23 and 8 in South New Berlin, where Quackenbush was taken into custody.
Quackenbush was charged with 3rd-degree grand larceny, 3rd-degree criminal possession of stolen property, 3rd-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, and 1st-degree reckless endangerment.
He was arraigned in centralized arraignment court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail. The Norwich Police Department assisted in the arrest.
