OXFORD — The Oxford Memorial Library, located at 8 Fort Hill Park in Oxford, will be starting a used book sale today through Saturday.

The book sale will run during their normal operating hours of 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, Thursday, August 14 and Friday, August 15 and from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.

Included in the sale will be used adult fiction, children's fiction, young adult novels, nonfiction, large print books, picture books, books on CD, and DVDs.

The sale will be held in the Oxford Library's Community Room, with payment accepted at the front circulation desk. Bags will be available to carry purchased books.

Oxford Memorial Library Director Gillian Mulder said book purchases are by donation, so individuals can pay what they can for their books.

"You can pay a dollar for a book, 50 cents for a book, whatever you think, whatever you have. There is no set prices so that we can make it accessible and people don’t have to worry if maybe they find an extra one they want to take home," she said. "We always have people very happy with their hauls when they’re leaving."

Funds from the book sale will go into the library's general fund, which can then be used to support the library's programs, building maintenance, and more.

Individuals may also donate their used books to the Oxford Library to be sold in future book sales. Mulder said they are looking for slightly newer books so that people will be more interested in purchasing them, and donated books should be in usable condition, without water damage, missing covers, or missing pages.

"A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn’t give it to a friend or purchase it yourself, don’t donate it," said Mulder. "But if you have books on your shelf that you haven’t read, or you have read, but you need more room, we do accept those donations."

The Oxford Memorial Library is currently undergoing construction on their porch, so the front door will be inaccessible. Mulder said the back door entrance can be used, and the parking lots and front parking spaces are still available to use.
