PLYMOUTH - The second annual Chenango County Lavender Festival will be held on Saturday, July 19 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Little Farmhouse Lavender, located at 368 Pike Hill Road in Plymouth.
The farm is run by owner Sally O'Malley and her husband John, where they grow approximately 6,000 lavender plants in 12 different varieties.
The community is encouraged to stop by and see all the beautiful lavender, while enjoying music, games, demonstrations, food, lavender and maple treats, and more.
Attendees can also cut bundles of their own lavender to take home, or purchase pre-cut bundles. O'Malley said they will also be selling their variety of lavender products, which includes sachets, heat packs, neck wraps, soap, lotion, pillow mist, plain and lavender honey, sugar scrub, tea, candles, and more. They will also be there to discuss lavender and its uses with visitors.
"You can either cut your own, or sometimes people don’t want to cut their own, it might be hot or whatever, so we are cutting now, and we’ll have some available so if they don’t want to cut, they can get a pre-cut bunch and go home with lavender," O'Malley explained.
She said individuals can also watch the Little Farmhouse Lavender Facebook page for details on upcoming U-pick events.
Demonstrations at the festival will include a yoga activity, an observation beehive from Kutik's, and an essential oil distilling demonstration.
"She’s going to be doing an essential oil demonstration. So we’re actually going to be distilling some lavender in the field. So we’ll have the still going, and she’s going to be talking about distilling essential oil, so that’s kind of fun, and talking about hydrosol and essential oil and all kinds of fun things," said O'Malley.
Attendance to the Lavender Festival is free, and table and chairs will be provided. However, O'Malley said visitors can bring a blanket if they'd like to sit in the lavender field.
