Norwich And Sherburne PONY Split Doubleheader

NORWICH – The Norwich and Sherburne PONY League teams met for a two-five inning doubleheader on Thursday night on the turf. Both teams picked up wins, nearing the end of the 2025 summer season.

Both teams sit behind Unatego, who leads the A division.

Game 1: Sherburne 8 - Norwich 2

Sherburne took game one with a big fifth inning. With the game tied at two, going into the top of the final fifth inning, Sherburne scored six runs to come away with the victory. Sherburne’s Dylan Breen led Sherburne with a hit and an RBI. Aside from Breen, Parker McCracken and Degan Knochenmus had hits.

Breen worked four solid innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs on three hits, five walks, and eight strikeouts. Knochenmus worked a clean, scoreless fifth inning.

Norwich’s Joey Parker and James Sprague led the team with a hit and an RBI. Jed Turner also had a hit in the loss. Pierce Sherman worked four and a third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits, two walks, and struck out two batters. Joey Parker and Luke Waters got the final outs in the fifth. Parker allowed four unearned runs.

Game 2: Norwich 5 - Sherburne 1

After both teams scored early with a run in the first, Norwich took the overall lead in the top of the third and extended in the top of the fourth. Norwich also kept Sherburne off the board, stranding runners on base, for four straight innings. Norwich’s Brooks Boland had two-run single in the top of the fourth to lead the team to victory. Joey Parker had a single and a triple for two hits as Luke Waters had a RBI double and Mason Brunick with an RBI as well in the win.

Luke Waters worked four and two thirds, allowing just the one earned run on three hits, four walks, and struck out six batters. Blayne Sutton got the final out of the bottom of the fifth with a strikeout.

Sherburne’s Parker McCracken drove in the team’s only run of the game with a single to right field. Collin Pudney and Nolan Sigman also had hits in the loss.

Lucas Newman worked 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on three hits, four walks, and struck out eight batters. Degan Knochemnus went 1.1 innings in relief, allowing just one hit and had a strikeout.

Sherburne (2-5) awaits any other matchup while Norwich (5-2) hosts Unatego for a doubleheader at Norwich High School on late Sunday afternoon, starting at 3 p.m.
