Sherburne Man Arrested For Setting Vehicle On Fire

SHERBURNE – New York State Police at Norwich have arrested a Chenango County man on charges of arson following an investigation of a vehicle fire at a Sherburne home.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle on fire in the driveway of a Classic Street residence in the Village of Sherburne shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, July 5. When they arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed and had drawn the attention of a large crowd.

Upon investigation, police found that 43-year-old Delbert F. Dewey of Sherburne had intentionally started a fire inside the vehicle in response to a dispute with the home residents that occurred earlier that day.

Dewey was arrested for the class C felony of arson in the third degree and a class D felony of criminal mischief in the second degree. He was arraigned at Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $15,000 cash bail, $30,000 bond or $75,000 partial secured bond at 10 percent.
