NEW BERLIN — Astronomy Educator Leo Greco will instruct summer astronomy classes for kids and adults at the Beardslee Homestead, located at 101 NY State Route 80, in New Berlin.
The classes will be from 9 to 9:30 p.m, every Saturday night in July, with the final class on August 2nd. Participants will have the opportunity for telescopic viewing after classes at 10 p.m.
Night sky viewing on the property will be offered in the third floor observatory which has a 360-degree view and a professional grade Schmidt-Cassegrain 16-inch telescope with computer and software to offer deep views into the galaxies, nebula, star clusters, and more.
Greco said youth classes will teach about the fundamentals of the universe including earth, stars, and galaxies and adult classes will stretch a bit further into the captivating nature of the universe, along with discussing humanity's current historical observational tools and methods.
He shared a few details of upcoming classes and said the alien class on August 2 will be an eye-opener to fascinate the kids with the possibility of other life forms.
He’ll go through the commonality of life on earth and also share how many planets and stars are in the entire universe.
“I want to leave them with something really memorable to think about,” Greco said.
He explained the adult space exploration class will review things previously accomplished, like the moon landing and the international space station.
