NORWICH — The Chenango Arts Council will be hosting several events this month to support and promote the arts in Chenango County.
On Saturday, July 19, the Arts Council will be presenting a one-night gallery show featuring the artwork done by Chenango County youth in the City of Norwich Youth Bureau's summer art programs.
The programs included a mosaic art class taught by Cortland-based artist Ashe Martin. Students learned about the ancient art of mosaic, and worked to create mosaic murals that will be donated to historic sites in and around Norwich.
There was also a drawing and painting class lead by local artist Stephanie Pebler. Students of all skill levels learned how to draw with charcoal with an eye for moving on to painting with acrylics, which they also learned in the program.
Now their artwork will be on display in the Chenango Arts Council Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Gallery from 1 to 4 p.m. on July 19.
"There’s going to be music and refreshments and it will be just a good way to support young student artists," said Chenango Arts Council Administrative Assistant Mary Beth Miller. "It’ll be a good chance to see how much the students have learned in the art classes and support young kids showing in a gallery for the first time."
