SHERBURNE – Before the holiday weekend, the Sherburne PONY league team hosted Edmeston for two five-inning games. Sherburne came out on top 6-2 in game one before dropping 8-4 in game two.
Game 1: Sherburne 6 - Edmeston 2
Sherburne went ahead 5-0 in the bottom of the first inning. A walk, an infield single, and another walk loaded the bases early before Edmeston picked off a runner at third before another walk to reload. Parker McCracken doubled to left to drive in two before a run scored on an error and a McCracken steal of home plate. Chance Beeman singled to right to drive in a run. Edmeston answered with two runs in the top of the second before Sherburne scored its final run in the bottom of the third on an error.
McCracken led the team with a hit and two RBIs as Jay Tackabury, Lucas Newman, Nolan Sigman, Chance Beeman, and Collin Pattee each contributed with hits.
Deagan Knochenmus worked three innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, and struck out two batters. Dylan Breen worked two clean innings, striking out three batters.
Game 2: Edmeston 8 - Sherburne 4
Edmeston scored three runs in the first and three in the second as Sherburne tried to fight back in the top of the fifth, but came up short. Dylan Breen led Sherburne with two hits and an RBI as Chance Beeman and Deagan Knochenmus also drove in runs. Nolan Sigman had the team’s only extra base hit in the game with a double.
Sigman got the start on the mound, going an inning and two thirds, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks. Jack Bohnert worked an inning and a third, allowing one earned run and struck out two batters. Lucas Newman worked an inning, allowing one unearned run, one walk, and had a strikeout.
Sherburne (2-3) hosts Unatego this evening for a doubleheader, starting at 5 p.m.
