NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department is proud to announce that Detective Corey Wengert and Detective Corey Burnett have successfully completed the esteemed FBI Hostage Negotiation Training, held at the New York State Homeland Security facility in Oriskany, New York.
This intensive program featured advanced classroom instruction and dynamic role-playing exercises, equipping participants with the latest techniques for resolving high-stakes crisis situations. Detective Wengert and Detective Burnett demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill throughout the rigorous training.
“I am extremely proud of Detectives Wengert and Burnett for their commitment to professional development and public safety,” said Chief Reuben J. Roach. “As a graduate of this course myself, I know firsthand the level of expertise and composure required. Should our community or the state ever face a hostage situation, I am confident these officers will rise to the challenge.”
With their certification, Detectives Wengert and Burnett have joined the elite New York State call-out team and may be deployed anywhere in the state to assist with hostage negotiations and crisis response.
