OXFORD - Eating locally grown and produced food is enriching in so many ways, for our bodies, for our relationships, and for our local economy.
It's fresher and more nutritious because it hasn’t traveled hundreds (or thousands) of miles to reach us. It’s sold to us by people who are also our neighbors and friends, which means that when we sit down to dinner, we know where the food on our plate has come from and we have a sense of connection to the source of what nourishes us.
And by spending our dollars locally, we support our local economy and help put agricultural farmland back into use.
All of this enrichment, from the food to the relationships to the local economy can be found every Saturday at the Oxford Farmers’ Market on Lafayette Park.
The Market is now fully in the summer season swing with dozens of vendors every week offering a wide variety of local plant starts and flowers; seasonal veggies and mushrooms; eggs, dairy products and regional cheeses; locally raised and processed beef, lamb, pork and chicken; local hard ciders, maple syrup and honey; coffee and tea; hand-made soaps, lotions and balms; homemade treats for dogs; exquisitely hand-crafted items for the kitchen and home; and artisan fiber products from local producers.
Every product comes straight from a local source and the skilled hands of your neighbors.
The Market is also now accepting SNAP dollars (doubled with FreshConnect checks), along with other local food assistance programs, to extend the reach of great local food.
The John Truth Experience will be performing in the Bandstand this Saturday, playing their unique brand of Americana rhythms.
The market is open from 9:00 a.m to noon, with music starting at 10:00 a.m.
