OXFORD – Local softball teams in the Chenango County and surrounding areas have teamed up to play this summer in a 15 and under age group with a possibility of older teams in the month of July. Oxford’s 15 and under softball team hosted local Afton on Wednesday night, coming away with a 20-6 victory. The team has played four games thus far this summer and are 3-1.
Both teams got on the board early in the first, each with one run. Afton’s Megan had an RBI double to bring in Jenna, who walked with one out.
Oxford got started with two straight walks to begin the bottom of the first, which led to a single by Ahnalee Kappauf with a run scoring on an error.
Both teams added on in the second as Afton scored on a wild pitch and Oxford scored four runs to officially take the lead. A single and a fielder’s choice with one out led to a two-run single from Keira Somers. Bray Barrows had a two-RBI single to right to make it a 5-2 game.
