SHERBURNE - The Sherburne Public Library is thrilled to host former Sherburne-Earlville teacher and new author Rennie Korver for a casual conversation about his newly-released book, “Riding with the Milkman." This heartfelt book describes Rennie’s experiences growing up in post-World War II Holland and the life-changing journey of immigrating to America in 1957.
The book begins with his life as a child in Holland, surrounded by a loving family and many friends. He takes us through several memorable moments from his childhood. We see the events and happenings through his eyes and with the understanding of how he felt in each memory.
As they made the decision to immigrate, you feel the pain of leaving family and friends, and the uncertainty of life in a new country as they adjust to the culture and begin to build a new life. The book shows the uncertainties of adapting to a foreign culture and the resilience required, capturing both the hardships and the triumphs of an immigrant family trying to find their place in America.
“I am so excited to be hosting Mr. Korver at our library," said Sherburne Public Library Manager Colleen Law-Tefft. “And personally, for me this is very exciting since he was my 8th grade creative writing teacher, who became one of my favorite teachers. He was new, with a really good sense of humor, and he encouraged us to think outside the box. In many ways, he expanded my view of the world.”
Please join us on Friday, June 27 at 6 p.m. for a casual conversation with Rennie Korver at the Sherburne Public Library. Light refreshments will be served.
