NORWICH – The Norwich Purple Tornado softball team celebrated its 2025 season with a banquet held at the Norwich High School cafeteria. Coach Joe Cirigliano honored each player and reflected on the improvements the team had made this season.
“Do the little things right,” Cirigliano said during his speech. “This is the most talented and impressive group I’ve had. We were competitive in a lot of games this season, where I received compliments from other coaches, and we were one inning away from a few upsets.”
Cirigilano also shared team stats from 2024 to 2025 to show the team’s improvements in all areas. The top five players batted a team average of .332, which improved greatly from being .165 in 2024. This year’s team totaled 96 hits compared to 38 last season and scored 78 runs to 38 last year.
The team also had four players reach the 300 club this season: Ava Cirigliano, Bri Cirigliano, Kerragan Reid, and Caitlin Wetterhahn. Ava had the highest batting average on the team with a .390 as Bri finished with a .362. Reid had a .341 batting average as Wetterhahn finished with a .333.
Ava and Wetterhahn shared Co-MVP honors and Brooke Rogers received most improved. Wetterhahn also received the Booster Club scholarship.
Great job, ladies and best of luck to the seniors: Caitlin Wetterhahn, Zaylee Thomas, Siennah Bresee, and Emma Palmer.
