GILBERTSVILLE - The Butternut Valley Grange, Gilbertsville, will hold its next meeting on Monday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 7 Bloom Street. Lynne Porter and Cathy Galley will be on hand to greet early arrivals with light refreshments. The main agenda item will be election of officers for the ensuing two years and selection of delegates to the State Grange Convention to be held in Watertown in October.
At the last meeting, Anna Ritchey reported that the home delivery of meals project continues with about 40 meals to individuals. She also shared the plans for the “Share the Bounty” meal for approximately 100 to be prepared and served by the Grange, at Sacred Heart Church, Sidney on May 22.
Roberta Halbert reported a very successful public dinner held April 30 with proceeds benefiting Grange Hall building operational expenses and community project endeavors. She also reported a very successful fundraiser on Mothers’ Day when the Grange assisted Wilson’s Barbecue in Unadilla.
The membership approved the engagement of Myra Wind conducting Yoga classes in the Grange Hall during the summer months.
Sandra Stoy, Family Activities Chair, reported that the chocolate cake contest was held with Anna Ritchey placing first and Helen Ritchey placing first in the diabetic category.
There was indication of several who would be willing to serve a few times for pie making sessions over the next several months. Definite plans and schedule will be shared at upcoming meetings. The Grange has earned the reputation of several tasty homemade pies and look forward to continuing the tradition.
The membership voted to support the local committee that is organizing a “Welcome to Gilbertsville” brochure that will inform new members moving to the area on various activities and organizations that are available to the community as well as to the American Legion for their annual appeal.
Recent winners from Butternut Valley at the county level of Family Activities judging include: Quilted Wall Hanging—Paula Evans; Baby Size Quilt—Lynne Porter; Stuffed Toy- Anna Ritchey; Recycled Calendar—Anna Ritchey. County winners from Butternut Valley in Lecturer’s contests were Anna Ritchey in photography in Fair and Grange Hall categories and social media post and Cathy Galley in puzzle worksheets.
Members are reminded to bring loose change to the June 9 meeting for Aunt Mary’s House in Norwich, a community service project. .
