SOUTH NEW BERLIN — When seeing individuals in my community experience circumstances that no one should have to experience, I knew I wanted to help. So I created Backpacks With Bre, which provides backpacks of essentials to those impacted by unforeseeable circumstances.
As a teacher, I know how important it is to a tiny human to have a backpack that they get to call their own. Seeing a tiny human take pride in something that they can call their own, especially when they don’t have many things, is huge.
When experiencing events like a house fire, being displaced from your home, a loss of someone important to you, and so many more reasons, the feeling of having something that is yours can help you take a deep breath and figure out what’s next.
Inside the backpacks are items (specific to the situation) like teddy bears, blankets, books, school supplies, socks, hats, toiletries, mascara, contact care, a notebook, toys, bandaids, phone chargers, and so many more. My hope is that providing individuals with these items will help them start to get back on their feet and be able to take a deep breath and find themselves amongst a hard time.
Want to help? I will be at the South New Berlin Firehouse on Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a craft show and Chinese auction that will help benefit Backpacks with Bre as well as an Amazon wishlist with some items!
