NORWICH — Perry Browne Intermediate School students in grades 3 through 5 are wrapping up their Girls on the Run season by celebrating their accomplishments, helping their community, and participating in a 5K run.

Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization founded in 1996 dedicated to inspiring girls in grades 3 through 8 to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them unique. Through a curriculum that combines physical activity with life lessons, the program helps girls develop the skills they need to navigate life's challenges with confidence and resilience.

Students spent ten weeks preparing for the 5K by running, walking, skipping, and cartwheeling across the Perry Browne campus.

"We really just encourage them to get up and move. Just get up and move. They don’t have to run all the time, they just have to be walking or moving," explained Girls on the Run Coach Lois LoPresti.

The girls will come together as a team and celebrate their accomplishment and join other teams from surrounding counties at the Girls on the Run 5K event on Sunday, June 1 in Neahwa Park, located at 15 James Georgeson Avenue in Oneonta.

Community members are encouraged to attend the event to cheer on the Perry Browne team, as well as the Heart and Sole team from the Norwich Middle School, or run and walk alongside them in the 5K.
