NORWICH – Legion Commander Robert Root of the Lt. Warren E. Eaton American Legion, Post 189, in Norwich, announced a Memorial Day Parade and services for Monday, May 26, to honor deceased U.S. military service members.

“This Memorial Day we remember the more than one million men and women who have died in the U.S. Military service. We dedicate the last Monday in May to their memory, while acknowledging that for our Gold Star families the mourning is not limited to 24 hours once a year.

“We benefit from the sacrifices of fallen Americans every time we exercise our constitutional rights. We are able to speak freely, possess a firearm, peaceably assemble and vote. Public officials don't secure us these rights, rather they have been paid for in blood by those who willingly risked their lives to protect ours, from the founding of the nation to today. As the saying goes: 'All gave some, some gave all’,” said Former American Legion National Commander Paul E. Dillard.

There will be a parade at 10:30 a.m. in Nowich. Participants in the parade will line up at the VFW Post 2782, located at 61 East Main St. The parade will proceed to the West Side Park, where it will arrive at about 11 a.m. The event will take place in West Park, in the center of the City of Norwich, in front of the historic Chenango County Courthouse.
