HOMER - On May 18 at approximately 12:31 a.m., New York State Police at Homer were on a traffic stop on State Route 13 in Cortlandville when a vehicle stopped behind the Trooper’s patrol car.

When the Troopers approached the vehicle, it sped off.  The Troopers lost sight of the vehicle and were unable to get a license plate for the vehicle since it was not legible.

A short time later a Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputy reported a similar vehicle with no headlights, doing burnouts on State Route 13 and almost striking the Deputy.    Troopers began to head in the direction of the Deputy when they observed the described vehicle in the wrong lane of travel on State Route 13 and activated their emergency lights.  The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed and eventually stopped near the Elm Tree Golf Course when the operator got out of the vehicle and surrendered himself.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as  Devyn J. Barry, age 30 of Spencer, NY.  Barry was charged with the misdemeanors of Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the third degree and numerous traffic violations.
