BAINBRIDGE – On a rainy Wednesday afternoon, the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats baseball team hosted Southern Cayuga in the first round of the Section IV, Class C tournament. After the Chiefs took an early 3-0 lead, B-G held them defensively and took control on offense to take a 4-3 victory. B-G advances to face a tough, unbeaten Deposit-Hancock team on Friday.
The Chiefs took an early 3-0 lead on a one-out home run over the center field fence and a two-run RBI single. Aside from the early disadvantage, B-G’s defense was outstanding to hold Southern Cayuga, which fired up the Bobcats’ offense.
B-G got on the board with one run in the bottom of the second as Brayden Swartwout led-off with a hard hit ball to third and advanced to second on a passed ball. Swartwout scored on a RBI single by Mason Acquisto.
After a 1,2,3 top of the third for the Bobcats’ defense, including a two deep fly outs and a lined out to second, caught by Aidan Haynes, B-G went to work offensively. Parker Buttice hit his second double of the contest to lead-off the bottom of the third and advanced to third on an error.
