OXFORD - Looking to treat Mom for Mother’s Day? Bring her to 6 On The Square in Oxford for a special afternoon performance from singer/songwriter Joe Crookston. The fan favorite from Ithaca will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 11.
Crookston toured with Gordon Lightfoot, headlined major U.S. festivals and music venues, received the Folk Alliance International Album of the Year for his 2009 album “Able Baker Charlie & Dog” and was FAI’s artist-in-residence in 2016. He’s played with Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams, David Francey, John McCutcheon, John Gorka, Judy Collins and hundreds more.
He has released eight studio albums of award-winning songs, many of which have been covered by other musicians. Two of his songs, “Blue Tattoo” and “Brooklyn in July,” have inspired feature films. He is currently releasing a series of EPs under the umbrella title of “Nine Becomes One” that explores new sonic landscapes.
Crookston regularly serves as a songwriting and guitar teacher at The Swannanoa Gathering, The Ashokan Center, Winter Village Music Camp, The Goderich Celtic College, Appel Farm Arts, and Music Center Wildflower Music Festival.
His artwork and paintings have been features in many galleries, including The True North Gallery in Ontario alongside paintings by other musicians, including Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Leonard Cohen and Janis Joplin.
Tickets for the 6OTS performance are $25 in advance or $30 at the door; purchase at 6onthesquare.org or call 607-843-OTS6 (6876) to make a reservation. Doors open one hour before the start of performances. The concert also will be streamed live online for $10; more information at 6onthesquare.org.
