AFTON — Recently, The District 4 Golden Owl Award was presented by Nationwide, in partnership with the New York State Future Farmers of America (NYS FFA) to Afton Central School Agricultural Educator and FFA Advisor Cathleen Reeder.

“The Golden Owl Award is given to educators who demonstrate exceptional leadership in agricultural education,” said FFA Board Member Vicky Gregory.

“Reeder has been named for two consecutive years because of her continued commitment to leadership, community service, agriculture, and providing opportunities to Afton Central School students,” Gregory said.

She noted Reeder leads by saving bald eagles, baby rabbits, supervising the Afton School FFA Food Pantry, and providing opportunities for students in and outside of Chenango County.

Reeder said she was honored to accept the award and praised her students for their support in the classroom.
