WORCESTER – The Norwich Purple Tornado boys basketball team traveled to Worcester on Thursday night for their 2024 season opener. Norwich is coached this year by Athletic Director Joe Alger.
Under new direction and with much depth to their roster, Norwich took control in the first quarter and never looked back with a dominant 70-29 win.
The Tornado set the tone early, building a massive 37-4 halftime lead with stifling defense and a well-executed offense that remained consistent throughout the game. Entering the fourth quarter, Norwich held a commanding 51-15 lead, maintaining their pace and control of the game.
Senior Steven Dowdall led Norwich with 25 points, including four three-pointers and consistency at the free-throw line, where he went 3-for-4. Mitchell Collins added 11 points as eighth grader Cooper Chrystie finished with eight points. Zak Meyers chipped in seven points with Graham Burton contributing with six points in the second half. Kassen Stubb finished with five points from first half efforts. Carmine Pastore had four points while Mike Brunick and Chase Colley each added a bucket, highlighting an all-around team effort.
