NORWICH — Otselic Valley Fishing and Heritage Association (OVF and HA)Vice-Chair Michael Foor-Pessin is pleased to announce a two part series community reading program.

The first part will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., July 31 with the second part from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, October 12, both on the campus of the Chenango County Historical Society Museum, located at 45 Rexford Street.

Foor-Pessin said for the third year in a row, the Roger Follett Foundation Inc has funded the reading program centered on nonfiction and fiction works. This year's title is “Journey Through Chenango: Land of the Oneidas”.

“The free presentation is open to all residents and will be held in the Loomis Barn,” said Foor-Pessin. “You don’t have to be signed up for the reading program to attend.”

Two books selected for the reading program this year are Daniel Koch's “Land of the Oneidas” and Walter Edmond’s “Drums Along the Mohawk.”

He explained both books give a depth of information regarding the evolving heritage of central New York and the United States and revisit the revolutionary era from 1774 to 1783, when the Oneida Nation and other Haudenosaunee Nations engaged in helping American Patriots secure the war over the British.

In addition to the presentation, he said tours will be given of the Haudenosaunee exhibition at the museum from 4 to 6 p.m.
