NORWICH – The 27th annual Norwich Gus Macker tournament gets underway on Saturday, July 13 and concludes on Sunday, July 14. The tournament will be back downtown on East Main Street for the first time in five years. The Norwich Family YMCA needs all hands on deck to make the best of this year’s tournament.

There are several ways to do your part and volunteer this coming weekend. There is a need for scorekeepers and referees with 296 active teams ready to play. Referees must be knowledgeable about the game of basketball and know how to properly blow a whistle. Referees also get paid for their time, $250 for both days and $125 for one day.

There are also opportunities to help out at the bracket tent with Jeff Abbott, at team registration on all three days, including Friday during the initial set-up, and water runners to keep scorekeepers and referees hydrated. Aside from helping out directly, there is also a need for people to help set up the baskets and other equipment on Friday and people to help tear everything down and clean up on Sunday after the games conclude.

If you’re interested in volunteering in any way, please email Tom Revoir at trevoir@norwichymca.org or Jamey Mullen at jmullen@norwichymca.org.
