NORWICH – On Wednesday, July 3, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Norwich Police Department received an emergency call about a burglary in progress on Westcott Street in the City of Norwich.

Norwich Police officers responded to the scene and arrested Adam Tyler Ferguson, 26 of Norwich, and charged him with second degree burglary, a Class C felony; fourth degree criminal mischief, and third degree criminal trespassing, misdemeanors.

The Norwich Police Department reported that an emergency call was placed to the NPD from a female victim who advised the desk sergeant that an unknown male had climbed a ladder from her backyard and was trying to enter her third-floor apartment.

Norwich Police Chief Reuben Roach stated the victim said the male was trying to force open her backdoor and she was sheltering in a locked bathroom with her two children inside the home.

“Norwich police officers responded to the scene and captured Adam Ferguson who was still on the ladder in the backyard of the residence,” Roach said.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Adam had tried to enter the residence but was unable to breach the door or windows. It is alleged that Adam then spray-painted a pentagram and several other items on the door to the victim’s residence.

“Mr. Ferguson is on New York State Parole for felony assault on a police officer in 2020, and this random act of violence against an individual that he did not know, is troubling,” said Roach.

Adam was held for CAP Court, and then remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.

At the time of this release, New York State Parole had not issued a parole violation warrant on Adam Ferguson.
