NORWICH — The Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport, located at 6390 State Highway 12 North in Norwich, will be hosting the annual Chenango County Airport Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, where attendees can learn all about the local airport and aviation fields.

Admission and parking are free. Lt. Warren E. Eaton Airport Administrator Shane Butler said all are welcome to attend, and aviators are welcome to fly in their planes, helicopters, and other aircraft.

There will be food available, including breakfast and donuts from the Donut Hut and Bakery, barbecue chicken from the Columbus Public House, and hot dogs from J Panzo Dogs.

There's fun for all ages at this year's Airport Day. Included in the day's events are DCMO BOCES with their Career Destinations program and Air Patrol program, Mohawk Valley Community College with information on their aviation programs, the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, a bounce house for kids, Tri-County Flight Civil Air Patrol, the Iroquois Soaring Association out of Hamilton will be returning with their gliders, and Butler said there may be a flight simulator.

Kids aged 8 to 17 can also soar through the sky on a free Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1204 Young Eagle Flight. Parent or guardian permission is required. To register ahead of time, contact Dave Dibbell at 607-373-9195 or dibbeld@frontiernet.net or register at Airport Day. Young Eagle Flights are also available for free year round.

For more information on the EAA, visit Join.EAA.org.

Unfortunately, previously planned flights on the World War II-era Vultee BT-13 Valiant have been cancelled due to mechanical issues.

Additionally, some displays and demonstrations will be weather dependent. In the event of inclement weather, some attractions may be cancelled or delayed until the weather clears.

Butler encourages residents of Chenango County and the surrounding areas to stop by the airport on Saturday to learn all about aviation.

"Airport Day is a community day around the airport where we try to bring up people to look at the airport, see what we have going on, and look at all the different aviation type displays that we have around the county," said Butler. "We’ve got a lot of different things for people to see and do at the airport."
